I have not posted in some time. Early in the morning of May 28th, while biking to meet a pal for our usual bike ride on Mt. Tamalpais, I was hit by a minivan. I have been recovering ever since from multiple fractures to my left tibia & fibula. It’s longer & more difficult than expected. More on this event another time.
Fire hydrants come in differing shapes & colors. Some have been in place for a long time. In NYC, I have noted that the fire hydrants in Midtown Manhattan tend to be better cared for, in terms of painting, than other areas of NYC. Fire hydrants can be colorful, cute, a resting place, a place to cool off on hot days, used for construction sites, a cup holder, an attraction for graffiti, stickers & trash or have a fabulous setting. In reality, they are there for “a connection point by which firefighters can tap into a water supply.”

A perfect fit for the cup on the cover of the nut that opens the fire hydrant. That locking cover is to prevent folks from unauthorized opening of the hydrant.
